Steam Coasters & Short Sea Traders
Waine & Fenton's excellent book places the
Clyde Puffers in the context of other steam coasters. The
introductory pages include a thoroughly readable and well illustrated
explanation of boatbuilding techniques of the period together with a chapter
devoted to steam propulsion units, again with excellent drawings. This is a
large format book includes ten pages devoted to Clyde Puffers, the lines
and ga drawings of the early "puffer" Ballydoon (1878) drawings
of "Macleod", (1894) lines and ga drawings of "Garmoyle
& Ailsa" (1904) and ga drawings of "Moonlight". These
drawings are of high quality and I would expect a model maker to work from them
comfortably.
History of the early puffers is dealt with and also the wartime development of
the Victualling Inshore Craft (VICs) built for Admiralty work. This is a first
class book for everyone interested in coasting vessels with high quality
drawings throughout.
